Claire Coupland brings a graceful contemporary feel to indie folk music, always with a touch of her “wicked sense of humour” (Rik Emmett, Triumph). There is a pureness to her voice that can silence a room. A moving songwriter and compelling guitarist, Claire combines smooth folk finger picking, jazz influenced progressions and soaring melodies and effortlessly pulls her audience into her personal world of life experiences. Deeper, darker and more vulnerable song writing exploration unearthed stories of fragile family dynamics, the struggle to belong, homesickness, painful goodbyes, and hope for the future – all intricately woven themes in her brand new album, “New Light” (February 2023). After joining forces with Juno award winning musician Sam Weber (Bahamas) and some of LA’s finest musicians (Dawes, Alan Hampton, Garret Lang), the album presents fresh and spontaneous arrangements with mood filled percussion, slinky guitars, sparkling piano and shades of grunge and California rock.
