CityFolk recognizes the contributions and achievements of a wide range of individuals to the folk music community in Canada. Below are the awards offered by the festival.
Stingray Rising Star Award
Stingray Music is proudly committed to supporting emerging Canadian music talent through its Stingray Rising Stars Program. The objective of this program is to help provide opportunities for up-and-coming musicians in all genres by providing showcase opportunities, monetary awards and potential airplay on the Stingray Music channels. Since its inception in 2000, over 1000 artists have directly benefited from the Program.
One award of $3,000 will be presented on September 18th at CityFolk!

The Stingray Rising Star Award has been given out each year at the Ottawa Folk Festival since 2004 to an up-and-coming artist. Previous winners include: Joe Grass, The Musettes, Tall Trees and more. This year we will be considering local acts and very much look forward to recognizing our fantastic local talent with the help of Stingray.
You must be a Canadian artist or group, who has already submitted to the festival, who has not been a recipient of a Stingray Rising Star Award in the past. The award is open to solo acts and bands and the winner will be selected by a combination of a public online vote prior and during the festival and by a jury vote during Marvest. Judges will base their decision on two elements: Original composition and performance.
